Crystal Jade Yumcha, Melbourne CBD

My foodie buddies came home recently, so the eating fest has begun again!

I have been craving dimsums for awhile and it’s a little silly to go for Yumcha alone as I’d have maybe two or three dishes and be full. So when the question: What’s for Brunch? came up, I jumped straight in with my suggestion of Yumcha at Crystal Jade.

This is my 2nd time to Crystal Jade. The first time, I didn’t bring my camera so couldn’t document the fantastic food we had. This time, I brought not one but two cameras. A point-n-shoot, and my Canon 400D. So the photos you see here are a mix of both.

We started off brunch with a serve of Xiao Long Bao. The soup in the bao was so yummy and flavourful! The only complaint I had was that the silver wrappers the Xiao Long Bao came in made it a little hard to pop the whole thing into your mouth. It took me a few minutes of gentle nudging to remove the bao from the wrapper without piercing the skin: I didn’t want to lose any of the soup!

Moving on we continued to consume:

Shumai / Xiu Mai

Har Gao

Custard Buns

Nuo Mai Gai

Chee Cheong Fun - Prawn filling

We also had Century Egg Porridge but I have no photo of that as once again I showed my true colours: I started to eat before realising that I hadn’t taken any photos. Greedy. But it was hard to resist, especially when they are so so yummy!!

For dessert we had:

In a clockwise fashion starting from the top: Red bean cakes; watermelon with sago ; almond soup; chinese herbal dessert. Doesn’t it all make your mouth water?

The service was fantastic as well. Very fast to serve, very fast to clear the tables. I enjoyed myself thoroughly and would love to go back to Crystal Jade to try their dinner fare as well. I must point out however that on my first trip to Crystal Jade, I sampled the Mango Pudding which was a horrible let down. It didn’t taste anything like Mango Pudding and reminded me of instant mango powder flavouring. Not pleasant. Other than that, Crystal Jade definitely gets a thumbs up from me!
